A fairy tale is defined as a children's story about magical and imaginary beings and lands, where improbable events lead to a happy ending. Fairy tales often involve elves, hobgoblins, dragons, fairies and other magical creatures. One fun, magic filled story kids love, is Jack and the Beanstalk. A classic fairy tale with magic, imaginary beings, improbable events and of course a happy ending (well for Jack, maybe not so happy for the giant!)Kids love to read these well known stories. They delight in a parent's grumbly voice repeating an ogreish Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum". It's even more exciting to act out a favorite well loved story. Let them dress up and pretend to be Jack or better yet a big, mean giant who's trying to eat you. Here's another idea for creative activity for the little ones. "Build" a story using wooden blocks. Illustrate in 3D your family's own version of Jack and the Beanstalk using a wooden block set. Build the beanstalk, a giant's castle, golden egg laying hen, harp and of course the giant himself all from some simple wooden blocks. Blocks are a creative, natural and educational toy that provide hours of fun for kids! Build with blocks today and let these classic toys tell a classic tale!

All Tech and No (Traditional) Play

Tuesday, March 18, 2014 3:10:31 PM America/Phoenix

If you’re a parent who is concerned about the amount of technologically driven toys there are on the market for children, you’re definitely not alone. However, finding a balance is easier than you might think. According to the NPD Global Marketing Research Group, a survey of 2,200 parents in the spring of 2013 showed that only 40% of parents feel that children are using more technology than other toys, and 51% felt that there was no impact at all. (1) While parents were not as concerned as previously believed, the study did show that a balance between technology and traditional toys is not only necessary, but craved by parents.

So, as a parent, how can you find balance? The first way is obvious: purchase traditional toys for your kids. NPD’s study discovered that technology does not, in fact, replace children’s desire for a hands-on toy like a car, doll, or book. (2) Parents can instigate a balance in play by making traditional toys available as an option. Board games, blocks, Legos, dolls, dress-up outfits, and other fun items are just as easily purchased as a new software program, and if on hand, children will naturally pick them up when it suits their fancy.
