Light up their imaginations! Add a few battery powered tea lights to your kids blocks. A set of wooden blocks and a way to make them shine, will inspire some great building and lots of fun! They'll spend hours lighting up the windows of their houses, castles and towers. Be prepared to turn off the lights and enjoy their creation's glow.

Here's some simple instructions to start you off. Build this lighthouse from wooden blocks. People all over the world love lighthouses. They travel just to see them, count the ones they've visited and take beautiful pictures. Lighthouses come in all shapes and sizes, but are always strong, sturdy and usually have many interesting stories to tell. So let your kids build this version of a lighthouse from their wooden building blocks. Afterwards make a goal to visit one, or get a book and discover interesting facts and stories for yourself!

How Wooden Blocks Can "Magically" Become Hogwarts Castle

Thursday, October 16, 2014 8:42:02 PM America/Phoenix

hogwarts modelMake your own Haunted Hogwarts!wooden block hogwarts castle

While it may not appear magically, building Hogwarts Castle from these wooden blocks will create magical memories for you and your child. For Halloween this month we have created some simple things to build from blocks for the little ones (pumpkin faces and frankenstein). Now we'll focus on some famous haunted structures that are challenging enough for the older builders, child or adult.

My favorite haunted place is definitely Hogwarts Castle. It is here at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that Harry Potter and his friends have all sorts of enchanted adventures. This spooky home to young witches and wizards is beloved by muggle children worldwide.

Hogwarts Castle is 7 stories high. Like all good castles it has mysterious dungeons and many towers and turrets. But unlike castles in our world, Hogwarts is guarded by ancient spells and is supported by magic. There are moving staircases, ghosts, talking portraits and star-filled ceilings.

So conjure up a little of your own sorcery and see if you can make Harry's home appear. Accio!
